Congress Place is the headquarters of the People’s National Congress Reform. Maikwak Limited owes about G$20 to G$25 million in rates and taxes for the Congress Place property.
Maikwak’s previous debt was about G$6 billion before being reduced after an assessment earlier this year. A City Hall official said no demand notice has been issued to Maikwak to pay the new amount now due. City Council decided to scrap daily compound interest and replace it with simple interest. The source said they never applied the new tax regime to Maikwak and that the company is not entitled to it.
PNCR leader Aubrey Norton said his party’s business arm had been activated to generate revenue.
