Police said two heavily tinted motor vehicles were observed acting in a suspicious manner near the President’s private residence at Leonora, West Coast Demerara at about 18:20 hrs on Thursday, 3 September 2026, and that both vehicles were subsequently intercepted.
Police added that the occupants of the two vehicles sped away from the area, prompting an immediate distress call and the alerting of police patrols in the vicinity.
The Guyana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) said it had received a report concerning the two heavily tinted motor vehicles, four occupants and several unregistered drones discovered in their possession, all in the vicinity of the President’s residence at Leonora.
The Civil Aviation Act 2018 makes unauthorised operation of drones within restricted or prohibited airspace illegal and potentially a criminal offence, and the GCAA warned the public that drone operation in restricted airspace, near protected locations or in any manner compromising aviation safety, national security or public safety will not be tolerated.
The GCAA and relevant authorities said they will take all appropriate action against persons found to be operating drones unlawfully, and that offenders will be subject to the full force of the law, including prosecution and all applicable penalties.
