Broadcaster Dr. Rovin Deodat dies

Dr. Rovin Deodat has died.

He was a broadcaster and communications specialist with more than four decades in media, communications and education. No date or place of death was given.

He presented a radio feature called "From Word to Word". The programme explored the origins, meanings and uses of words and remained on the air for decades.

He held the senior position of Communication Adviser to the Office of the President and was Director of Education, Information and Training at the Environmental Protection Agency. He was coordinator of the Government’s Regional Radio Project.

He was involved in establishing and developing regional radio stations and trained broadcasters to serve their communities. His work included development of community broadcasting in Guyana’s hinterland.

His academic background included a PhD in Communications, a Master’s degree in English from Simon Fraser University, and a Bachelor’s degree in English from the University of Guyana.
