APNU called for an independent audit on Friday and described the joint statement as a “Government‑Dominated Joint Statement”.
Minister Priya Manickchand revoked the toll imposed by the Linden Town Council for use of the Kara Kara Road. The Linden Town Council had imposed a toll for use of the Kara Kara Road.
Linden Mayor Dominique Blair issued a statement on the matter. President Irfaan Ali invited the Linden Town Council to meet.
The Council said the Town Clerk is controlled by the PPP and that day‑to‑day administration of the Council is the responsibility of the Town Clerk, who is the chief administrative officer of the Council.
The Council said the Town Clerk refuses to act on many decisions made by the elected Council, has walked out of Council and committee meetings on several occasions, repeatedly refuses to participate properly in the work of the Council and its committees, and refused to sign certain cheques after councillors recognised financial and administrative lapses.
The Council said it itself has called for an audit. The Government vetoed the Council’s decision, effectively torpedoing its position. The Council said the Town Clerk is appointed by the PPP/C.
