The initial test firing of a gas turbine is planned for around December 4.
The project aims to add an initial 57 megawatts of electricity to the national grid. It is ultimately designed to deliver 300 megawatts of power to the national grid. The Gas‑to‑Energy project is estimated to cost around US$2 billion.
The project has been delayed by more than two years. It has seen a major dispute between the government and the contractor. It has experienced major soil issues. The project has not yet delivered a promised 50% cut in power bills.
Four turbines have already been set up at the site. One steam turbine has been set up at the site. Another steam turbine is being installed at the site. There are currently about 1,300 workers on the Wales site. The offshore pipeline has been unused for 21 months. Indar visited the project with Prime Minister Mark Phillips and technical personnel.
A transmission line in Farm is designed to carry approximately eight megawatts. The same Farm transmission line was recently carrying 10.1 megawatts. Approximately 425 kilometres of additional transmission lines are being built. Four transformers caught fire in Tuschen.
