More than 204,000 Guyanese have completed government transactions at service centres operating in six regions since the rollout began in Leonora, Region Three, last December.
The rollout has expanded with centres opened in Fort Wellington, Region Five in February, Anna Regina, Region Two in April, Port Mourant, Region Six in May, Lethem, Region Nine in July, and Bartica, Region Seven, last week.
Minister Zulfikar Ally highlighted his interaction with staff at the newly opened Bartica Government Service Centre during a recent interview with the Department of Public Information. Minister Ally said the service centres save people time and money and added they provide reliability and predictability in the everyday movement of citizens.
The centres host the Guyana Revenue Authority, the General Register Office and the Central Immigration and Passport Office and also handle enrolment and issuance of cards under the national electronic identification programme. They allow residents to access these services without travelling to Georgetown.
The ministry said it is working to extend coverage to Region One and Linden, Region Ten.
